How are you doing?

Checking in on your holiday experience
Rey Katz 2 min read

Not everyone celebrates Christmas, but many people have a day or two off. Even if you don’t celebrate Christmas, you see the people around you traveling to spend time with family and you may find yourself lonely.

Or, maybe you are one of those people who travels to spend time with family. Perhaps you’re also lonely. Perhaps you hate gifts. Perhaps you don’t want to hear your uncle’s political views, again.

Maybe you’re having a good time with your family, chosen family, and/or friends. Maybe you’re having a great time with some takeout food and a movie alone in your room.

Before the pandemic, I thought Christmas Day was the best day to fly cross-country. The airport is both empty and festive. Tickets were half the price of any other day. You can relax into the vinyl seat, put on a movie, and not have to do anything else for five and a half hours. A great holiday.

But now, I live on the same side of the country as my significant other and our families. No flights on Christmas. Far better, actually.

What I’m reading today:

Erin Reed has a fantastic post about getting through the holidays as a trans person:

I’ve also written about being LGBTQ+ during the holidays:

How to survive the holidays with family (if you're LGBTQ+)
If you’re in my family and reading this guide about how to survive the holidays with family, this is not about you!! For real. Many people, especially if they are LGBTQ+, dread attending family holiday events. If this resonates, you are not alone. I’ll share some tips for how to survive the holidays with family if you’re LGBTQ+ in this post.

You are not alone! Although we are a virtual community we are still here with you during the holidays with love and support.
