How can your great content stand out for Pride Month?

Let's make your LGBTQ+ content and marketing stand out during Pride Month! Here's exactly how I just advised a client.

Marketing your LGBTQ+ work during PRIDE MONTH - sounds great, right?

Absolutely, but let's approach this with a reasonable plan and expectations.

Welcome to a new column of Amplify Respect called Amplify Your Work. In addition to the essays you know and love on Thursday (ish) I'll be sharing my 10+ years of marketing and web experience to help your small biz flourish. Some posts will be for paid subscribers only. This one is a gift to all of you.

Yes, I saw a rainbow over the mountains over some horsies! Happy Pride!! 💜🌈🏳️‍⚧️

So Pride Month is starting. How can you harness all this excitement around LGBTQ+ people to grow your audience, gain more clients, or go viral?

Pride Month is an interesting time to post LGBTQ+ content, because lots of people are interested and it's topical, but it also becomes an incredibly crowded space. Kind of like the gym in January.

I think it's a good thing, though, that so many people are willing to share their LGBTQ+ experience during this time. Check out this wonderful community writing challenge from if you'd like to read and share more during Pride Month:

Facebook ads are not the way to make your work stand out. Yes, I know they are only like $3 per day and they show your ad to thousands of people. That's super exciting, if you are not talking about being LGBTQ+.

I am sorry to report that LGBTQ+ themed Facebook ads basically just get laugh reacts from trolls, who count as views and clicks or whatever but are not your audience or customers.

So don't waste your money on Pride Month Facebook ads.

Instead, consider encouraging your readers to post/share on social media for you. And then keep your own social media simple: post quotes from your pieces, along with a link to read the rest. It won't go viral, but going viral as an LGBTQ+ person is ... not good generally.

The key is to share your content personally instead, without the middleman of a large corporation. Can you guest post about your project in someone's newsletter? Can you write an op-ed? Can you send a personal email to several people you know who might be interested in your latest?

As LGBTQ+ creators and small biz owners, we have to work harder to get our work out there. But we also get more committed personal supporters as well.

Thank you so much for supporting and sharing my work!
