Loved reading this, Rey. I had heard that Noah was one of the few remaining "good guys" in publishing, and that was my experience too. I wrote a similar 'behind the scenes' piece about how my essay about coming out appeared in Huff Post, and heard from lots of readers that they found it useful. Thanks for sharing your own experience too 💕
Thanks so much, Clare! I loved your essay in HuffPost and really appreciated getting to read the behind the scenes of how you made that happen. Thanks for sharing!
Hearing the background process is really useful! And I’ve definitely had to put something down because I felt “too close” to it. One of the major differences between an amateur and a professional writer is being able to recognize that and do it (imo). Thanks again for sharing the journey of this very important essay!
I saw your article on Huffpost, Rey, and I've added a link to it for next week's Qstack post. Well done! I'm so glad you shared your experience. Out of curiosity, did you send your pitch directly to Noah's email, or did you follow the guideline on the website to email [email protected]? I'm glad you had such a favorable response, but I often wonder whether editors will get irritated if a pitch is submitted to them directly rather than the stated submission method.
Thanks so much for sharing my article, Mr. Troy, and I appreciate your kind feedback!
I sent my pitch directly to the editor, Noah's, email address, based on an experience of another writer I had heard sent a pitch this way. I am not sure if this is the best thing to do or not. I know that editors receive an overwhelming number of emails, and it certainly has the possibility to cause irritation like you said.
So proud of you going through with publishing your essay. It’s a big step, I loved to read it and even as an overal cislooking woman I often feel uncomfortable at a campsite bathroom. Me in my outdoorsy outfit and walking boots between those women in their nightgowns and slippers dryblowing their hair with big beautycase and me holding my toothbrush. Not that there is anything wrong with them, not at all I love it when people feel so free to do whatever they want to feel comfortable, but sometimes I see their looks judging me for being different (you can tell, it’s very obvious when this happens). Like I am judging them or something. It heavily depends on the sort of campsite we’re staying at.
Long story short, I loved your story and big bear hugs to you for being so very brave to share it. I think you are a great writer and hope you will continue doing this. You really help others not only the people of the community but all to understand how it feels being different and not feeling like fitting in. Tall trees get a lot of wind, but please keep growing, in time they also get stronger roots to withstand that wind and more sunlight because of this.. 🧡💜
Thanks so much for your kind words and feedback, Gon, I really appreciate this. I know what you mean in the campsite bathrooms, there are the folks who are in there with hairdryers and then there's me with a toothbrush and one soap bottle. Haha. Completely relate.

Love this BTS piece - thanks for sharing, Rey! I’m glad you had multiple editor-cheerleaders along the way.
Thanks so much, Amy! I really appreciate your kind feedback and support.

Thanks for the info Rey, I suppose (like everything in life) it depends on the person/publication you're submitting to... ;)
This is fantastic--your article, your post here, your writing voice. All of it.
