Staying well hydrated is a privilege.

Being able to sleep through the night without peeing even once is a superpower few people have.

All this 8 glasses of water a day hype is great if you're working from home and have a bathroom a few steps away.

It's popular to remind folks on the internet to drink water. Sounds like a good idea, right?

But if you are camping for the summer as a trans person, it's in your best interest to pee as seldom as possible. Trust me, I know.

Well Beings News reports trans people often avoid public bathrooms for their own safety and comfort, some by "holding it," some by delaying eating or drinking.

Two things allowed me to sleep through the night maybe a quarter of the time this summer for the first time in my life. (Yes, I do keep a jar in the van for those nighttime pee emergencies.)

I was almost constantly (mildly) dehydrated. I drank water (and coffee, and juice) during the first part of the day and only had a few sips with dinner.
